- Hybrid
Sour Apple is an indica-dominant hybrid bred by Top Shelf Seeds by crossing Cinderella 99 and Sour Diesel. It is an 80% indica and 20% sativa strain (cultivar) with an average THC content of 22%.
Sour Apple combines the best of both indica and sativa varieties. The high begins as a euphoric cerebral experience that uplifts the mood, and this slowly mellows into a relaxing “couch-lock” state typical of indica varieties. This strain may be useful for alleviating stress and insomnia, among other things.
As the name suggests, Sour Apple is a zingy strain with an aroma similar to apple pie. The diesel notes from its parent strains also shine through, giving it a distinct sour apple aroma. Sour Apple also has a delicious intense taste that’s both skunky and sweet.

Medical Applications
Cannabinoids like THC, CBD, and CBC can help modulate serotonin transmission, which can help manage depression and anxiety.
THC and terpenes like myrcene have sedative effects that can aid sleep.
Medical cannabis contains many anti-inflammatory and painkilling compounds, including THC, CBD, and beta-caryophyllene.
Alongside regulating serotonin transmission, cannabinoids like CBD and THC can help improve mood and relieve stress by increasing the amount of anandamide available in the body. CBD can also help increase blood flow to the hippocampus, which can help reduce anxiety.
Medical cannabis can be an alternative to antidepressants like duloxetine (Cymbalta) and milnacipran (Savella) and anti-seizure medications like pregabalin for the treatment of fibromyalgia.
Dosing
Sour Apple has a high level of THC, which is not recommended for beginners. Care should be taken as even moderate doses may make users anxious or paranoid. When inhaling cannabis, it takes 15 minutes for THC to reach its maximum level in the bloodstream. When trying cannabis for the first time, starting low and slow is advisable, waiting at least 15 minutes between doses. When it comes to eating cannabis, it is wise to dose even more carefully and wait an hour or two before re-dosing, as the effects can be overwhelming. Those who dose carefully can greatly benefit from edibles.
Growing
Sour Apple produces fluffy, bright green, and conical buds sprinkled with orange pistils. The buds are dense.
It is a relatively easy strain to grow, but it does get quite large. It is advisable to have a good trimming routine in place to keep this plant healthy and stay on top of vigorous side stems. This plant will also need topping if growing indoors to prevent it from stretching too close to overhead lighting.
Sour Apple may benefit from training techniques such as “screen of green” (SCROG). The SCROG method is performed by topping the plants in the early vegetative stage (removing the apical or center stem).
This encourages the plant to produce more side shoots, eventually becoming colas (flowers). Once topped, the branches of the plants are gently weaved through support (usually a horizontal trellis) to maximize the amount of light reaching each potential bud site.
This plant will typically yield 700 grams per plant outdoors and 500 grams per plant indoors.
Height
Sour Apple can get very tall, especially outdoors, with some growers claiming heights of over 13 feet. Indoors, this plant is expected to reach approximately 60 inches.
Humidity and Temperature
When growing indoors, keep the relative humidity between 40%-60% in the vegetative phase and drop it to 30%-40% during flowering to prevent molds such as bud rot from taking hold. Temperatures should stay between 70-80 F (21-26 C). The humidity may fluctuate with changes in temperature as the water cools and condenses from the air, so continual humidity monitoring is essential.
Flowering
Sour Apple takes a little while to finish flowering; it is usually ready to harvest after nine to 11 weeks.
